Science is derived from the latin word 'scientia' meaning to know. Science deals with a rigorous critical and evidence based approach to any event happening arround us. A simple phenomenon which was not known untill 1930 is scattering of light. The splitting of visible light in to seven colors that can be experimented when allowed to pass through a prism came to be known as "The Raman Effect". Professor C V Raman observed this phenomena when he was on a return voyage from London to Bombay. The idea that persisted till then was that the sea is a clear reflection of the sky and hence blue, as proposed by Rayleigh. Prof Raman could not settle with the idea. He went against the existing norms and published the Raman effect. Science has always asked for space to experiment, observe and analyse the matter around us. This temperament should not be clouded by rudimentary attitude of rote learning.
Spirituality is the science of the body spirit, the mind spirit and the spirit of the soul. Spirituality is the enthusiasm of the body, mind and soul to work together. They strife for union always and cheat you always to test you. For example, in a cold winter morning, the body needs to bath but the mind says not to bath as it needs warmth, the soul is silent. If the mind says to eat something spicy, body knows that it will be difficult to digest but mind wins and you eat what tastes good. The soul is silent. We avoid anything bitter, harsh, cold, laborious etc. just because your body and mind want to be in comfort. The soul is silent. But, can you survive without having to taste sour, spicy, bitter, sweet tastes all together ? Can you survive without going to work and do labor or just by sleeping all day long ? The answer is no. When the body and mind make their noises by doing physical and mental work and then become silent after getting tired, the soul starts its work. Now the spirit of the soul is awakened. You have moved from sound to silence. The soul cannot be touched, cannot be smelt, cannot be burned etc. It is just there. You are just there. The finest form of matter is soul and the condensed form of matter is mind.
However, as science is often clouded by rote learning, spirtuality too often gets clouded by rudimentary approaches. I would say, what worked fine a decade ago might not work today. We receive updates to Android phones once in a fortnight. The moon waxes and wanes, the sun rises and sets, likewise, the spirutality should also be open to experiment. There is however some basic requirement as in there are some fundamental equations in every domain of science. In spirituality, they are discipline, devotion and dedication. Here the body is the instrument, the mind is the most sophisticated technology and the soul is you.
